Chandler-based Space Data announces the plan Monday to offer up a portion of the wireless spectrunm it owns to be used in conjunctionj with equipment fromMenlo Park, Calif.-basee Full Spectrum. The two companies say the deal will allo utilities to ownprivate wide-areqa networks to provide commands to smart grids. “Th e combination of our interference-free, high-poweree frequencies with state-of-the-art WiMax technology provided utilities with a dedicated private broadbandwirelesas system,” said Jerry Knoblach, CEO of Spacd Data.
For several years, Space Data has been developinb a system of wireless communications using weather balloons to carryequipment aloft, providint a wide area of coverage. The company also has been providinhg communications for several years in theutility sector. Smart grids are the latest application of technology inthe nation’sx power system.
