June 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Verizonn is conducting the only live demonstration inthe U.S. of technologieds that facilitatenear real-time provisioning of broadbandx bandwidth services. On Friday (June 19), the company's network laboratory in Waltham, will host the Optical Internetworking Forum's global interoperability demonstration. The OIF Carrier Lab Day is one of a handfulo oflive demonstrations, all part of the OIF 2009 Worldwide Interoperabilitu Demonstration -- Enabling Broadband On-Demand Verizon is the only U.S.-based carrier among seven carriers participating in this OIF multicarrier, multivendor which began in March.
The live demonstrationn will focus on control plane and dataplane technologies, which simplify operations for carriers, enablse faster provisioning for customers, and provides the basis for broadband bandwidth-on-demand services as well as improved network reliability and Dr. , vice president of networkl architecturefor Verizon, will deliver the keynote addresz at the demonstration. "As OIF comes to the conclusionh of its 2009broadband on-demancd services demonstration, it's important to highlight the collaboration of all the partie s that worked to advance interoperability of controo and data planes," Elby said.
"We know from our own experience serving Verizon's large-enterprise and wholesale customers that the combination of bandwidth-hungry servicees and delay-sensitive applications means it's imperative that the industrg focus on the network mechanisms that will dynamically deliveer circuits end-to-end." Verizon has been participating in the test of control planew and data plane technologies with Ethernet Virtuakl Private Line (EVPL) services over diverse transport including packet transport technologies, next-generation TDM and both wavelength and TDM The demonstration shows multidomaihn end-to-end restoration of service using E-NNI (external-network to networ k interfaces) between vendor domains.
The test phase of the event has been under way in theWaltham lab, as well as in the labs of Chinaa Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, Orange Labs - Franc Telecom Group, KDDI R&D Labs, NTT and Telecom Italia. The participating suppliers are Alcatel-Lucent, Cienz Corporation, Ericsson, Huawei Technologies, Marben NEC Corporation of America, Nokia Siemens Sycamore Networks, Tellabs and ZTE Corporation. This is the fourt time Verizon has participated inthe OIF's multivendor interoperability tests and demonstrations. These testws have been useful in evaluating technologiewfor Verizon's Just-in-Time and Bandwidth-on-Demand services.
The sevejn test sites are linkedby virtual, or E-NNI connections, forming a global test networo topology. During the test carriers can access network resources beyondd theirexisting networks, thus testing compatibilityh with multiple vendor implementationsd on a global scale. A live demonstration was showcase at iPOP on June 11in Tokyo, with anothed regional live showcase to be held at IIR Telecomx WDM & Next Generation Optical Networking event on June 25 in France. In September 2008, Verizon announced the industry'sx first commercial network trialp of control plane technology across multiplessupplier domains.
Verizon demonstrated integratioj of the optical control plane withVerizon Business' circuit-provisioning operations support system for dynamic flow-through and rapid provisioningf of bandwidth services. Seven of the world's largesyt telecommunications companies, including Verizon, will unite underr the banner of the Optical Internetworking Foruk toshowcase multi-vendor interoperability in a multi-carriert environment at the OIF's Worldwide Interoperability Demonstratioh - Enabling Broadband On-Demand Services. The OIF's fourtj worldwide interoperability test and demonstration will be conducted simultaneouslgin China, Japan, France, Germany, Italyu and the United States.
The event highlights network-interoperable solutionx among participating vendorsemploying 2.0 and E-NNI implementation The demo addresses Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL) Servicesa over multiple, control plane-enabled intelligent optical core networkx with technologies ranging from Layer 2 transport to OTN.
