SAHA to spend $14.5 million on local housing project upgrades - Orlando Business Journal:

million in federal stimulus funds to repaif and upgrade a numberr of public housing Out of 349 housing authoritiee in Texas that received money from the Americaj Recovery andReinvestment Act, San Antoniok Housing Authority, or SAHA, received the largest amount. SAHA is requirec to use the moneg for capital improvements and all the funds must be spen t withinthree years. “These funds will alloe us to make much-needed repairs to our public housingg properties and improve the safetu and quality of life for our SAHA President and CEO Lourdes CastroRamirex says.
Among the properties slated for major upgrades is the LewixChatham Apartments, a 119-unift apartment complex for seniors on the city’as South Side. Lewis Chatham also will undergo anextensive modernization. In stimulus funds will be used to upgrade the elevators and fire safety at nearluy 20elderly communities. Other projectsd will involve replacing fencing, windows, roofing, cabinets, and heating, ventilatiobn and air conditioning SAHA Board Chairman Ramiro Cavazos says the agencyy will encourage the participation of smalland minority-owner businesses.
“We will also give additional weight to contractorw that commit to actively recruiting employeezs from the neighborhoods in and around where this workwill occur,” he says.
