Report: MediaNews Group, Verve Wireless to partner on mobile news - The Business Review (Albany):

Encinitas, Calif.-based Verve is initiating partnershipzs with MediaNews as well as othernewspaper companies: The Hearsty Corp., a minority owner of the Post and most other MediaNewas newspapers, as well as Belo Corp. and Cox . Verve's business is building mobiler sitesfor newspapers. Its CEO, Art is a 30-year newspaper veteran who won a Pulitzetr Prize in 1986 as a reporter for the Philadelphia Inquirer for his articles on the InternapRevenue Service. Verve already is working with the Associated Press news service as well asMcClatch Co., New York Times Regional Group and Mediaa General, Mediaweek said. Another mobile-news company, Crisl Wireless, is working with Gannett Co.
America's largest newspaper as well as theWashington Post. The Denverf Post currently offers a that featuresd a list ofrecent headlines. But newspaperws nationwide are looking for ways to generatwe more revenue from their mobile news feeds through such means as targeted local advertising. Mediaweek quoted a forecast from the Kelsey Groulp that local mobile ad revenur willtop $3.1 billion by 2013, up from $160 millionn in 2008. The New York Times Co. has said recentl it may start charging readers for news deliverecd tomobile devices, Mediaweek said.
