University of Maryland hospital, medical school set limits on gifts from pharmaceutical firms - Baltimore Business Journal:

The policies will mirror the recommendations made bythe , whicn urge medical schools and teaching hospitalas to adopt new policies prohibitingy doctors, researchers and students from accepting gifts and travel accommodations from pharmaceuticapl and medical device companies. The Universityg of Maryland’s new policies will also cover issues such as acceszs to patient care sites and facilitiezs bypharmaceutical representatives, and doctors’ participating in industry-sponsoreds events. The policies will apply to doctors, and students working at UMMC or the Schoolkof Medicine. The AAMC’s recommendations came following a morethan year-longg study.
“These policies will serve as an importanr resource for our faculty as they navigate the increasingly complicatecd intersection of medicineand industry,” said Dr. E. Albert Reece, dean of the School of Medicinwe in a statementreleased Tuesday. “These new, more comprehensive guidelinee further ensure that we onlysupport evidence-based practice and decision-making that is not subjectf to any potential or perceived influence from pharmaceutical or medical devics industries.
