Stimulus funds granted to UB researcher - Business First of Buffalo:

The two-year grant from the will support several laboratory positionz while accelerating research into the relationship betwee n impulsivity anddrug abuse. Principal investigatoe on the study isJerry Richards, an expert in psychobiologyh and research scientist at UB’sz Research Institute on Addiction. He is also research associate professord in the department of psychology and assistant professor in the departmenyt of pharmacologyand toxicology.
In a prepared Richards said the grant quickens the pace of hisresearchu program, enabling answers about the relationship betwee the positive, euphoric consequences of drug takint and the often delayed, negative consequencesw associated with drug taking. The grant will support research opportunities for UB studentse andyoung scientists, he “This award is creating new jobs, providin g educational opportunities for studentxs and young scientists and providing funds for purchasinfg a variety of laboratory supplies,” Richards The research team includes neuroscientist Alexis as co-investigator, a research scientist at RIA and research associatre professor in the department of psychology.
The Recovery Act includedf $10.4 billion for NIH, including $8.2 billion for scientifidc research priorities.
